Short answer: A real SMD screen warranty is a written promise from the manufacturer, honoured in Pakistan by its authorised partner. It covers parts that fail because of a defect: LED modules, power supplies and receiving cards. It does not cover misuse, power surges or normal ageing. Grey market panels are sold outside that chain, so in most cases nobody is bound to repair them.
If you buy Absen screens through the authorised Absen partner in Pakistan, the warranty comes from Absen and the local team handles the claim. The sections below explain what that means in practice, using Absen’s own published warranty terms as the reference.
What does an SMD screen warranty actually cover?
A manufacturer warranty covers defects, not every fault. Absen’s Standard Limited Warranty Statement (the version published for the United States) defines a defect as a material variance from the specification that stops the product from working for its intended use. For LEDs, it is more specific: a defect means LED pixels that cease to emit light.
In a typical SMD screen, these are the parts a warranty deals with:
| Part | What a covered failure looks like | Usual fix |
|---|---|---|
| LED module | Dead pixels, a dark module, a module with missing colour | Module repaired or replaced |
| Power supply | A whole cabinet or block goes dark | Power supply swapped |
| Receiving card | One cabinet shows wrong or frozen content | Card replaced and settings reloaded |
| Cabinet hardware | Faulty connectors or internal cables from the factory | Part replaced |
| Controller or processor | No signal reaches the screen | Check whose warranty covers it (see below) |
Absen’s terms give it three options when a claim is accepted: repair the product, replace it with a new, rebuilt, refurbished or comparable part, or issue a credit. The repaired or replaced part stays under warranty only for the time left on the original warranty. The clock does not restart.
What does an SMD screen warranty not cover?
This is where most disputes start. Absen’s published terms exclude:
- Normal wear and natural ageing of parts, including LED lamps and connectors
- Natural loss of brightness or colour over years of normal use
- Slight brightness or colour differences that do not stop the screen from working
- Damage during shipment, unless the contract says otherwise
- Misuse, improper installation, or repairs by anyone who is not Absen staff or an authorised repair agent
- Power failures, surges, improper power connections and unstable voltage
- Poor air conditioning or humidity control, extreme temperatures and corrosive air
- Fire, flood, lightning, wind and other events outside the maker’s control
- Improper storage
- Burn-in caused by showing the same static image for long periods
For Pakistan, the power clause matters most. Voltage swings, load shedding and generator changeovers are everyday conditions. A stabiliser, surge protection and proper earthing are not extras. They protect the screen and they keep the warranty claim clean. Our power consumption guide explains how to size the supply.
Official manufacturer warranty vs grey market SMD screens
A grey market SMD screen is a panel sold outside the brand’s authorised channel. It may be a genuine product brought in through a parallel import, old rental stock, or refurbished modules in a new frame. The product can look the same. The difference is who stands behind it.
| Official manufacturer warranty | Grey market SMD screens | |
|---|---|---|
| Who promises the repair | The manufacturer, through its authorised partner | Only the seller, if anyone |
| Written terms | Part of the quotation or contract | Often verbal, or a stamp on the invoice |
| Serial and product labels | Intact and traceable to the factory | Sometimes missing or changed |
| Spare modules | From the same product line, through official supply | Hard to find, often mixed batches |
| Local technical support | Trained team with access to the maker | Depends on the seller |
Absen’s terms make two points that matter here. First, the warranty becomes invalid if the original product identity information is lost, for example when serial labels are removed. Second, promises made by a salesperson, dealer or distributor are not warranties unless they are in a written document signed by an Absen officer. So a dealer’s verbal “five years guarantee” on a grey market panel does not bind the manufacturer.

How does the warranty claim process work?
Absen’s published terms describe four service modes: remote technical support, return material authorisation (RMA), advance replacement and on-site service. In practice, a warranty claim process for a screen in Pakistan runs like this:

- Report the fault in writing. Send photos or a short video, the cabinet and module serial numbers and the date the problem started. Absen’s US terms ask for written notice within seven calendar days of finding the issue, so do not wait.
- Remote check. The support team checks cables, software settings and the controller over a call or remote session. A loose cable or a wrong setting is often fixed at this step.
- Part swap or RMA. A faulty module, power supply or card is swapped, often from spare stock. Parts that need factory repair go back through RMA. Absen may also send a replacement before the faulty part is returned.
- On-site visit. For problems that cannot be solved remotely, an engineer visits. Under Absen’s US terms, on-site labour is not automatically included and may be charged, so check what your contract says.
Two costs often surprise buyers. Under the same terms, the buyer pays to ship faulty parts back, and must pack them properly. Ask your supplier how this works for a screen installed in Pakistan.
Why do spare modules matter for the warranty?
A warranty fixes the faulty part, but it does not always send a part from your screen’s production batch. Absen’s terms allow comparable or refurbished replacements. LEDs from different batches can differ slightly in colour, and that is an exclusion (slight colour difference that does not stop the screen working).
The simple answer is to buy spare modules with the screen, from the same batch, and keep them on site. You swap the faulty module the same day and send the old one for warranty repair. Our SMD screen maintenance guide covers how many spares to keep and how to store them.
What should you check before you sign?
Ask for these points in writing, as part of the quotation:
- Who honours the warranty in Pakistan, with the company name and address
- The warranty period for each part: modules, power supplies, receiving cards, and the controller or processor (some controllers carry their own maker’s warranty)
- Whether on-site labour and travel are included, and in which cities
- Response time for remote support and for a site visit
- Spare parts: how many spare modules and power supplies come with the screen, and from which batch
- Shipping costs for parts that must go back for repair
- Serial numbers of the cabinets, listed in the delivery documents
- Extended warranty options. Absen’s FAQ on extended warranty says it offers 1 to 3 more years after the standard period ends.
Keep the invoice, the warranty document and the serial list together. Without them, a claim takes longer, and lost identity information can end the warranty.
Frequently asked questions
It depends on the brand, the product series and the contract. There is no single standard period. Check the number of years written in your quotation for each part, and ask whether an extended warranty is available.
Yes, when the pixel failure comes from a defect. Absen’s terms define an LED defect as pixels that stop emitting light. Damage from impact, water or power surges is not covered.
Usually not. The manufacturer has no record of the sale, labels may be missing, and dealer promises are not binding on the maker unless it agrees in writing.
No. Absen’s terms exclude power surges, improper power connections and unstable voltage. Use a stabiliser, surge protection and proper earthing.
Your invoice, the warranty document, the serial numbers of the affected cabinets or modules, and photos or a video of the fault. Report it in writing as soon as you notice it.
It can. Absen’s terms exclude repairs by anyone who is not Absen staff or an authorised repair agent. Ask your supplier in writing which simple jobs, such as a module swap, your own team is allowed to do.
